Resident Doctors’ Strike: Traditional Practitioners set to take responsibility of medicine

The Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (MTMPN), on Wednesday, move to take the responsibility of healthcare services across the country as National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), embark on nationwide indefinite strike.
The body also advocated for the Presidential assent to the Bill that would be concerted efforts to remove all impediments to the development of traditional medicine in the country.
The National President of Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (MTMPN), Ibrahim Dada Nakowa, who stated this in Abuja, during an annual meeting of the body, said “The message is to call on federal government through the National Assembly to sign the Modern Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (MTMPN) Bill before them.”
Nakowa said, “The World Health Organization (WHO) recognised that we have over 70 percent of traditional medicine person in Nigeria because many sickness and problems are resolved through the traditional medicine.
“We are calling on government to support us as the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has embarked on strike so as to save Nigerians with our medical help.”
In his remarks, the National Secretary, Dr. Bamidele Fatoye, called on the states Governors to support the exercises to boost traditional medicine practitioners in their various states and country in general.
He said, “The association is the umbrella body of all traditional medicine practitioners in Nigeria. We are working assiduously to ensure Nigerians health is managed in a quality healthcare services with the traditional medicine.
“We want all the ministry of health in the states to acknowledge our members and the practice of traditional medicine.”
Also, Vice President, South-South, Dr. Patrick Ebason, said, “Before the election, we the Traditional Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria were all here to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to win election. We all fought through our spiritual power. We used witches and wizards to ensure he won the presidential elections.
“Now it is our turn for the President to help us in moving traditional medicine forward, we are asking President to support us because we worked for it.”
