JNC KANO CHAPTER COMMENDS FG OVER NEW NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE OF N70,000

The Chairman of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council Of Nigeria (JNC) Kano State Chapter, Comrade Hashimu A Saleh has commended the Federal Government and Organized labour council leadership for the newly approved national minimum wage.

In a press statement made available to Newsmen by the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Magaji Muhammed Inuwa today, Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, Said that, the Chairman on behalf of workers viewed the development as a way forward in harmonious relationship for all stakeholders namely; workers, the States and Federal government of Nigeria.

Further in the press release, Comrade Hashim expressed appreciation for Labour Union’s dogged efforts to accomplish the tasking job of formulating the new national minimum wage for Nigeria workers and said that the effort will certainly go down in the annals labour struggles in Nigeria.

The Chairman described the assignment as a harculean task at this critical stage of the country’s existence, he however expressed joy that with the teams’ dint of hard work and dedication the task had been accomplished and for that he said, workers and people of Nigeria are really proud of the efforts of labor and representatives of the Federal government among others.

On the other hand, the JNC expressed joy on how His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf indicated his willingness to be in the forefront among State Governors who will implement the new minimum wage. The JNC also commended the Governor for providing the sum of 11 billion naira to settle accumulated gratuity of workers in the State from 2016 to date

Comrade Saleh had also urged the States and Federal Governments to simplify the implementation of consequential adjustment to ensure that, the exercise is accomplished within a reasonable time to enable workers enjoy the minimum wage in good time.

The statement implore the Head of Civil Service, HoS, Abdullahi Musa to expedient action in inviting Leadership of JNC for dialogue and appropriate signing between the government side and the labour side of the Joint council for implemention at the State level when the Minimum wage bill is passed into Law by the National Assembly and issuance of national wages table by the National Wages and Salaries Commission.

In another vein, the JNC advised the governments at all levels to formulate policies that will curtail raising inflation in order to make the minimum wage enjoyable to workers.

At the end of the press release, the JNC call on all workers to rededicate themselves and to continue to give the government all the necessary support to deliver effective services to the good people of Kano State.
