Court remands political commentator ,”sojan baka” for allegedly bringing Gov Ganduje to public dishonor

A Kano magistrate court no 58 sitting at Nomans- Land court complex last Tuesday ordered that one Damina Ali Gwarzo be remanded in a correctional centre , on being arranged for defamatory remarks against Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The charge sheet filed before the court stated that , Damina is been accused of referring to governor Ganduje and the state commissioner for Local Government and chieftaincy affairs , one Muritala Sule Garo , in local parlance as” tea drinkers”.
The prosecution informed the court that the defendant in October 2021 committed the act of criminal intimidation and defamation against the governor and his lieutenants, stating Damina acted contrary to the provisions of section 144, 392, 393, and 397 of the Penal Code Laws. The court heard.
The defendant denied the allegations levied against him before the court.
The defense counsel, W Y. Nura prayed the court to admit Damina Gwarzo into bail.
The prosecution counsel, Ghazali Mai Gari Bichi objected to the application for bail made to the court by the defendant.
Ghazaali told the court that the offence committed by the defendant is serious in nature, adding that , granting the bail application mey culminate to breach of public peace.
Magistrate Aminu Gabari in his ruling decline to grant the defendant application for bail, Mr Gabari ordered that the defendant should be remanded in correctional facility.
The case is adjourned to November 18, for further mention.
