OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR ABBA KABIR YUSIF

OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KANO STATE ALHAJI ABBA KABIR YUSIF.

By AMINU ABBA KWARU

Sir, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention the growing concerns regarding the recent renovation and turf replacement at the Sani Abacha Stadium, which was funded with a substantial investment of over 276 million Naira by the Kano State Government. Despite the generous allocation of funds, reports of poor workmanship and inadequate quality of the renovation have left many stakeholders dissatisfied.

Sir, numerous voices in Kano State have lamented the condition of the new pitch, which is reportedly uneven and marred by bumps, slopes, and unsightly hollows. These deficiencies not only jeopardize the safety of players but also diminish the stadium’s capacity to hold professional fixtures, particularly as we approach the next NPFL season.

It is imperative that you address these issues swiftly to avoid further repercussions, especially the potential of not receiving approval to host NPFL matches next year.

Given the gravity of the situation and the potential impact on our local football community, I suggest that the state government under your able leadership constitute a committee of enquiry. This committee should be tasked with investigating the quality of the work carried out, examining the allegations of substandard turf installation, and identifying any individuals or entities responsible for this oversight.

The committee’s objectives should include:

1. Conducting a thorough investigation into the renovation process, including reviewing contracts, payments, and work done.

2. Engaging with stakeholders, including local clubs, players, and sports committees who have firsthand experience with the stadium’s condition.

3. Evaluating the current state of the pitch through site inspections and expert assessments to provide an accurate representation of the work completed.

4. Recommending appropriate actions to rectify any identified shortcomings, including potential penalties for non-compliance or substandard work.

Taking these steps sir will not only help restore public confidence in your government’s commitment to sports but also ensure that the necessary improvements are made in time for the upcoming NPFL season.

Sir, Sani Abacha Stadium has long been a pride of Kano State, serving as a vital venue for athletes and fans alike. It is essential that we uphold its reputation and provide the best possible facilities for our teams.

Thank you for considering this urgent matter. I look forward to your prompt response and action to safeguard the integrity of sports in our beloved state.
