A Kano senior magistrate court has sentenced , one Auwalu Rijiyar Lemu to six months in jail for smuggling hard drugs into the court’s detention facility.
The convict had connived with two others now at large to conceal contraband substances known as Diazepam inside the food stuff that they brought as feeding subsidy that were to be handed over to inmates that were detained inside the court cell.
According to the charge sheet that was read to the convict before an open court, said Auwalu visited an awaiting trial inmate that was brought to court, when he committed the offence levied against him.
The convicted man hide the hard drugs inside the food stuff that was to be handed over to the inmates, when officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, NCS , who were guarding the cell detected that illicit items were concealed inside the food stuff, the court heard.
Auwalu confessed to the crime, he told the court that, he was lured into the act by his accomplice, who were now at large, he pleaded with the court for leniency.
The presiding magistrate, Alhaji Auwalu Yusuf sentenced the defendant to six months in jail with N20,000,00 as option of fine .
