A Kano magistrate court sitting at Nomans – Land has sentenced nine persons to 16 months in jail, for consuming intoxicants and getting drunk.
The state ministry of justice, represented by barrister Ghazali Mai Gari Bichi told the court that the defendants, who are residents of various addresses within Kano metropolis were arrested from dark spots, where they were caught drunk.
The prosecution informed the court that the defendant s belonged to unlawful society. They were arraigned before the court , on a three count charge.
The defendant admitted the content of the charge sheet filed against them before the court. They pleaded with the court for leniency.
The presiding magistrate, Talatu Makama sentence the defendants each to 3 months in jail with an option of fine of N3000 for the first count charge.
The court further held that each of the defendant should proceed to serve 10 months in jail with an option of fine of N10,000, while the court handed that the convict should each serve three months jail term or pay N8,000 as option of fine, for the third count charge..
