Kano Assembly holds Capacity Building for Secretaries of Committees.
Kano Assembly has embarked on a one-day Strategic Capacity Building Workshop for Secretaries of the 34 existing House Committees in collaboration with Green Horizon Institute.
This message was contained in the statement issued to newsmen by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Spokesperson for the Rt Hon Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly on August 15, 2024.
While declaring the workshop open at the Islamic Forum, Guda Abdullahi Road, Farm Center Kano, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Jibril Ismail Falgore, said the last training workshop for committee clerks was conducted as far back as the year 2015 on effective budget processes. That was 9 years ago, and we’re making history today by bringing back an almost forgotten initiative.
Furthermore, while highlighting the critical role played by committee clerks, the Speaker said they are the backbone of legislative operations by providing invaluable support for our legislative matters.
He stressed that on behalf of the Kano State House of Assembly, he would like to express their deepest gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his continuing support of legislative activities.
In the same vein, the Deputy Clerk, Alh Nasiru Magaji, commended the Speaker’s unwavering commitment towards training and retraining to enhance the capacity of legislative staff. He also said the Speaker’s commitment has a profound impact on the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the House of Assembly.
During the opening ceremony, the lead presenter, Professor Muhammad Tabiu, emphasized the rationale behind the strategic capacity building workshop for Secretaries of KSHA Committees as timely, while urging the participants to adhere to the content of the workshop, as it will boost their capacities.
Mal Balarabe Bello, while presenting the paper titled “Functions and Powers of the State House of Assembly,” explained the intricacies behind the responsibilities of committee secretaries.
The one-day capacity building workshop for Secretaries of KSHA Committees is in collaboration with Green Horizon Institute to enhance the capacity of legislative committee secretaries.
