The Kano state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Kano erred in it’s declaration of Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP as the duly elected governor of Kano state.
The APC have expressed outright rejection of the outcome of the March 18th governorship elections in the state, calling for the immediate removal of the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Amb Abdu Zango .
The state Returning Officer for the polls , Prof Doko Ibrahim, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, returned that Yusuf polled 1,019,60, while Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 892,705 votes.
The Legal Adviser APC Kano chapter, Abdul Adamu Fagge esq, who spoke on behalf of the state hierarchy of the party alleged that “The REC manifestly affirmed the allegations of partisanship, favoritism and rigging against him when on 20th March 2023 he connived with the Returning Officer to declare Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP as the winner of the Governorship election instead of declaring the election inconclusive”
Fagge argued that the conducts of INEC Kano as an electoral umpire had contravened the provisions of Section 24, 51 of the Electoral Act, 2022, Article 62 of the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Election, 2022, and items 4.2.16, Note 32 at page 84 and item 6 of the table at page 93 of the Manual for Election Officials, 2022.
He opine that 273,442 voters suffered been disenfranchised through number of cancellations recorded , arguing that the number submerges the 128,897 score margin lead secured by NNPP.
“It is in view of the foregoing that we once again register our loss of confidence in the Kano REC and demand for his immediate redeployment in line with the dictates of the law, impartiality and respect for due process and the rule of law” he stated.
In a related development, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP has cautioned the incumbent APC government in the state to desist from sponsoring activities that would lead to breakdown of law and order in the state.
The chairman NNPP, Kano chapter, Umar Haruna Doguwa, who spoke through the party spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa have alleged that hoodlums suspected to have been sponsored by the APC government were behind the coordinated criminal attacks been suffered by innocent residents in the ancient city of Kano..
