Police authorities in Kano have arrested one Hassana Abubakar 32 years old resident of Bauchi state for allegedly being a member of a criminal gang that specializes in the theft of new born babies from general hospitals wards in Kano.
The suspected lady was apprehended within the premises of Muritala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, MMHS by members of the public who were curious about the presence of the suspect within the hospital arena.
It was alleged that Hassana when she was arrested b y the public was allegedly dressed like a health worker .
The spokesman, Kano police command, Dsp Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed that Hassana is in police net.
He said the command received an emergency call from MMHS, “informing us that an angry mob was about to lynch a woman.
“The CP Kano command, Sumaila Dikko despatched a team of police officers led by Dsp Bala Mohammed, who is the DPO Kofar Wambai division, to the place, we are not satisfied with her explanation, we have started investigating her, she is now at state Criminal Investigation Department SCID for discreet investigation.”
The suspect further speaking on the allegation against her by the police, “you see, I cam e to Kano to work as a health worker posted to AKTH, my identity card and medical qualifications all got burnt.
“I called my brother who works with MMHS to help me with my registration number, when I got here, I called him, his number was no longer reachable, some women approached me for medical help, I told them am from Bauchi that my credentials as a health worker were not with me here in Kano.
Police authorities note that the matter will be properly investigated, Kiyawa urged residence to remain vigilant adding that they should always adopt extra caution in the monitoring of the movements of suspected criminal elements in the state, noting that they should report suspected persons to the nearest security operatives.
