CS-CRIN deploys 120 community peace advocates to 10 LGA’s in Kano

Civil Society Conflict Resolution in Nigeria CS-CRIN has deployed 120 volunteer community peace advocates to render communal services in 10 local governments in Kano state.
The national coordinator, CS-CRIN, Adeniyi Aremu during a media parley session at Court road in Kano last week, disclosed that the peace advocates were trained with support from European Union, EU through the British Council progamme tagged “ Agents For Citizen Transformation ACT.
According to him, the trained advocates have been and deployed to the 8 metropolitan local governments alongside Rogo and Sumaila local governments in Kano south.
Aremu explained that the advocates are mandated to collaborate with security agencies to work towards forestalling actions from actors that may constitute breach to public peace.
Her added that the advocates are expected to help in intelligence gathering that will be forwarded to security agencies in efforts to maintain public peace.
In his words “ we have trained 120 volunteers and 10 of them are already in each of the 10 local governments, to help promote peace and security in those areas.
“they are to serve as watchdogs to alert security agencies on any act that may lead to breach of peace, they have dedicated lines that they can use to communicate the police, whenever the need arises.”
The CS-CRIN honcho further disclosed that religious leaders in the state have been trained on conflict management and peace building , adding that the motive behind the training is to strengthen peace in communities in the state.
